Russian Pictorialism

Pictorialism made its way into the Russian photography around 1880. Russian Pictorialists were the first to create poetic visual interpretations of the urban culture. They left the studio to become traveling photographers and returned to exhibition halls as "landscape poets". Pictorialism was very influenced by art movements—like Impressionism and Romanticism—where the feelings of the artist and/or viewer played an important role .
